The Best CBD Oil Educational Resources
During our day to day operations, we need to answer a lot of questions regarding CBD oil. In order to best answer these questions we cite our sources. We find ourselves returning to the same trusted sources time and time again. Here you can find a list of our current favorites.
Research Articles and Abstracts
Research articles and abstracts can be difficult to understand and aren’t widely publicized. However, they are the primary and most reputable source of information. Articles like these are written by doctors and scientists for the scientific community, so for an outsider, it can be hard to understand what they are talking about. Articles go into great detail, so it can be helpful to skim the bulk of the content and focus on the introduction and conclusions. Abstracts are another common form of scientific literature. Abstracts can be easier to understand, because they are basically a summary of a report.
NCBI (National Center for Biotechnology Information) is a national resource for biomedical research that focuses on molecular biology. PubMed is a database of citations and abstracts for biomedical literature from life science journals hosted by NCBI.
There are over 2,000 search results for Cannabidiol in PubMed. Many people believe there is no reputable research for CBD, but a simple search on this website shows otherwise.
Antidepressant and Anti-stress Effects of Cannabidiol
Antidepressant-like and anxiolytic-like effects of cannabidiol: a chemical compound of Cannabis sativa is the original title of this abstract. Anxiolytic is a fancy word for anti-anxiety medication, and anxiety relief is one of the top reasons people try CBD oil. We have a receptor scientists call 5-HT1A, this receptor is a common target for antidepressants, and most studies are showing that CBD plays well with this it.
CBD Oil for Inflammation & Autoimmune Diseases
Cannabinoids as novel anti-inflammatory drugs is an author manuscript that focuses on CBD oil for inflammation due to autoimmune diseases. An autoimmune disease is a disease in which the immune system begins to attack healthy cells. Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, and Multiple Sclerosis are all common autoimmune diseases. Many people with these diseases experience a lot of pain from inflammation. This manuscript covers a wide variety of autoimmune diseases, and states:
“It is becoming increasingly clear that cannabinoid receptors and their endogenous ligands play a crucial role in the regulation of the immune system” and “current studies suggest that cannabinoids are useful therapeutic agents in the treatment of various inflammatory disorders”
CBD Oil for Dogs with Osteoarthritis
Researchers at Cornell University found that “2 mg/kg of CBD twice daily can help increase comfort and activity in dogs with OA.” This is great news for senior dogs struggling with arthritis. Arthritis relief is one of the most common reasons why pet owners purchase our CBD oil tinctures for pets. This study was conducted with a randomized placebo control, and both the veterinarian and owners were blinded.
Fats Help the Body Absorb CBD
The original title for this article is, Dietary fats and pharmaceutical lipid excipients increase systemic exposure to orally administered cannabis and cannabis-based medicines Now that’s a mouthful. What this study basically found is that healthy fats such as omega-3s and omega-6s help your body use CBD effectively.
This is why we include hemp seed oil as a carrier in our CBD oil tinctures. While hemp seed oil doesn’t contain CBD, it is a great source of omega-3
The Role of the ECS in Endocrine Function and Energy Balance
Originally titled, The role of the endocannabinoid system in the regulation of endocrine function and in the control of energy balance in humans, this study is published in both Polish and English. The article states, “The endocannabinoid system has been recently recognized as an important modulatory system in the function of the brain, endocrine, and immune tissues.”
“Modulatory” means that it helps regulate those systems functions. The article also states that the endocannabinoid system regulates sex hormones, stress hormones, energy balance, and food intake centers. The endocannabinoid system is activated by CBD, this explains why CBD oil can help treat such a broad range of ailments.
Vegetable Glycerin is Safer than Propylene Glycol
This abstract, Carbonyl Compounds Produced by Vaporizing Cannabis Oil Thinning Agents, is specific to ingredients in e-liquids for vaping. As you may know, CBD oil can be vaporized, we make CBD oil vapes under the brand Hookahzz. Vaping CBD oil is the fastest acting method of consumption, and is growing steadily in popularity.
This abstract states that a popular ingredient in e-liquid, Propylene Glycol, produces significantly higher levels of Formaldehyde than another popular ingredient, vegetable glycerine. Formaldehyde is the same chemical used in the embalming process, and is not something you would want to inhale. This is why we only use vegetable glycerine in our CBD oil e-liquids.
CBD vs THC for Sleep
The original title for this piece is a little more user-friendly, Cannabis, Cannabinoids, and Sleep: a Review of the Literature Many people are familiar with the idea of using THC for sleep. Scientists are now beginning to compare THC to CBD, and think that CBD may be better for some with excessive daytime sleepiness and REM sleep behavior disorder.
Full Spectrum CBD Oil vs CBD Isolate
Titled, Overcoming the Bell‐Shaped Dose‐Response of Cannabidiol by Using Cannabis Extract Enriched in Cannabidiol, this paper focuses on the difference between CBD isolate and whole plant extract.
The biggest difference between CBD isolate and whole plant extracts such as CBD oil, is that CBD isolate only contains CBD. There are many different cannabinoids present in whole plant extract, such as CBG, CBN, and over ten others. This is why whole plant extracts such as CBD oil are referred to as full spectrum, meaning they contain the full spectrum of cannabinoids.
This article found that full spectrum CBD, is more effective than CBD isolate for treating inflammation. In future research, scientists will probably find this is true for other applications as well. This is what makes full spectrum CBD products so highly sought after. Learn more about the difference between full spectrum CBD and CBD isolate here.
Plant Derived Pharmaceutical Drugs
This article discusses the plant based origins of many common pharmaceuticals. Dr. Veeresham makes a compelling case for the use of natural medicine. Cannabidiol isn’t the only plant based compound used to treat ailments. For example, capsaicin is found in chili peppers, it’s also commonly used as a pain reliever. Aspirin, is based on the natural compound salicin, which is found in white willow trees. Learn more about the history of plant derived medicines by reading the full article.
